As quick walks go a trip along the Great Ridge from Mam Tor to Lose Hill is reasonably taxing. While the distance isn’t too great the undulating nature of this Peak District Feature means you have to put a lot of effort into it, especially on your return to the summit of Mam Tor.
The views over Edale and the Hope Valley are great, allowing you to see Hope, Castleton, Edale Village, Mam Tor and all the features on the South side of the Kinder plateau. And if you’re very lucky you might just get good weather and take some great photos. I mean if you’re very, very lucky. LOL
These are some of the shots we took a couple of days ago. The weather began quite promisingly but as with the weather on other days this June it turned into a bit of a muggy mess. A pleasant walk nonetheless.
If you fancy walking the route you can park at the Mam Nick National Trust carpark at the junction of the A623 and the road into Edale through Mam Nick. If you’re not a National Trust member you’ll have to pay. Alternatively there are a number of laybys toward Castleton that give you access to free parking at quiet times.
